Fluency disorders, such as stuttering, can impact a person’s daily life. We can help you or your child reduce tension while speaking and feel confident about sharing your voice.

A fluency disorder occurs when an individual has trouble speaking in a smooth or flowing manner. Stuttering is the most common fluency disorder. Some signs include:

  • Repetitions of sounds, syllables or words (“Do, do, do, do you want to eat?”)
  • Holding a sound for too long (“I love my ccccccar.”)
  • Too many interjections (“My, um, my dad, um, went, um, to work.”)
  • Blocks or stopping of airflow
  • Speech that is choppy and elongated
  • Excess tension and struggle when trying to speak.
  • Secondary behaviors such as foot tapping
  • Avoidance or frustration (e.g., stop talking, unusual pauses)
